BILL NUMBER: AB 1297
  VETOED	DATE: 08/11/95

To the Members of the California Assembly:

I am returning Assembly Bill No. 1297 without my signature.

This bill would require the student member appointed to the Board of
Governors of the California Community Colleges to be appointed by the
Governor from a list of three persons selected by the Council of
Student Body Governments. If none of the three nominees is
acceptable to the Governor, a new list of three must be submitted by
the Council of Student Body Governments.

AB 1297 would restrict the flexibility of the Governor in making this
appointment. The Council of Student Body Governments is free to
submit nominees to the Governor for his or her consideration under
existing statutes. What is not allowed is for an agency or
organization to restrict the Governor's choices. It should stay that
way.

Cordially,

PETE WILSON
