BILL ANALYSIS AB 2411 Page 1 CONCURRENCE IN SENATE AMENDMENTS AB 2411 (Jones) As Amended August 2, 2010 Majority vote ----------------------------------------------------------------- |ASSEMBLY: |52-22|(June 1, 2010) |SENATE: |27-9 |(August 23, | | | | | | |2010) | ----------------------------------------------------------------- Original Committee Reference: INS. SUMMARY : Establishes a series of disclosures that insurers selling pet insurance must post on their Internet Web sites and provide to applicants for pet insurance. The Senate amendments: 1)Delete the provision that would have created a separate line of insurance for pet insurance, as well as several Insurance Code sections that contained conforming amendments required by the proposal to create a separate line of insurance. 2)Add a provision that requires the California Department of Insurance (CDI) to post on its Internet Web site a listing of the insurers that sell pet insurance, along with related information about the company and its products. EXISTING LAW allows for the sale of pet insurance, but does not contain any specific previsions that govern this product. AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , this bill contained the same disclosure requirements currently in the bill, and also established pet insurance as a separate line of insurance. FISCAL EFFECT : According to the Senate Appropriations Committee, less than $150,000 costs to CDI commencing in fiscal year 2011/12.
